The industry faces the challenge of drastically reducing its CO₂ emissions, particularly in areas where large-scale high-temperature processes are indispensable. Researchers at Fraunhofer IKTS in Arnstadt have now developed a pioneering solution for this in cooperation with Riedhammer: a novel Riedhammer high-temperature furnace that can be operated with both natural gas and hydrogen. This unique system worldwide enables companies to conduct realistic comparative tests under identical operating conditions, thus facilitating the transition to climate-neutral combustion processes. Thanks to modern sensor technology, flexible process control, and industry-ready testing capacities, the furnace provides an important building block for the transformation of energy-intensive sectors, from the ceramics industry to metal processing.
